Eggplant Purple Vintage Tribal Rug / 3'9 x 7'8 Tallish ( Talish ) Rug #3325

Regular price $1,800.00

This eye catching eggplant purple antique rug transports us to the tribal landscapes of the Caucasus mountains. Originating from the nomadic tribes of the region, particularly the Talish tribe, this rug embodies a rich tapestry of cultural heritage. The field with the rare color ground features geometric floral motifs throughout and the rug has a phenomenal and striking antique ivory colored main border. This runner varies in width from 3'5 - 3'9, which only indicates more how primitive this piece is and that of course, it was hand knotted.

Adorned with some intricate tribal motifs in the ivory border that are hallmarks to the Talish tribe rugs we see, each carries deep significance to the weavers, and this rug serves as a testament to centuries-old traditions passed down through generations. The Talish people, a small yet resilient tribe, were amidst a rugged terrain, cultivating rice and tending to their flocks of sheep in what is now Azerbaijan.

Dating back to circa 1900, this runner exudes an aura with its slightly looser weave and delightfully floppy texture. Crafted entirely from vegetable-dyed wool, it not only showcases the ingenuity of its creators but also speaks to their sustainable practices.

This low pile and worn runner does bear some marks of time, but this rug remains stable and brims with character—a true testament to its enduring quality and true character earned solely through time. Please see pics for detailed illustration.
