This fantastic antique 1900s Caucasian rug brings a bold tribal energy with its strong symbolism. Three poled medallions run through the center, each one unique in shape yet framed by a unifying ivory outline. Inside, you’ll find powerful motifs like ram’s horns, long known to stand for strength and courage. These sit on a French blue ground scattered with scorpion motifs, woven for protection, as scorpions were a real part of daily life in that region. Cross motifs join in too, serving as guardians against the evil eye.
The border keeps the rhythm lively with a band of eight-pointed stars, their alternating colors popping against a brick red backdrop. These stars carry meanings of happiness and abundance, adding warmth and positivity to the rug’s vibe.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool over a century ago, its palette has softened with age into something rich and mellow. The pile is low and love-worn, a sign of years of use, but this piece of floor art still has plenty of life and love to give.
Low pile. Worn. Vegetable dyed wool.
