Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, this antique 1920s Persian runner packs a lot of character into its long frame. At the center, you’ll find a double-poled medallion design, flanked by small-scale art in two tones that give the layout balance and rhythm. Within those medallions sit little octagonal shapes that resemble turtle shells, alongside small animal motifs that peek out against a moody ground. The spandrels and other decorative elements echo the medallion style, all set against a brick red field that keeps the whole piece visually grounded.
The inner border features a fence-like pattern of security motifs, while the main border band is woven with raw, undyed camel hair, giving it a natural contrast, and you’ll even spot paisley designs tucked at the ends. The wool is stout and solid, making the rug more than capable of handling busy feet and even the occasional four-legged traffic. While it shows some scattered wear from its age, that only adds to the character of a piece that’s been working hard for a century and is ready for plenty more years.
