4x5 Antique Tribal Caucasian Rug #4514

Regular price $2,070.00

This antique Caucasian Shirvan with 120 years of age, woven by nomadic weavers from the mountain regions near the Caspian Sea are loved for their strong geometry and tribal movement, and typically were woven small. It has a square 4'3 x 5' size and is celebrated for it's shape, as most come in more rectangular form.

The field here is arranged in orderly linear rows of tribal motifs, each one sitting against a golden yellow-wheat ground. There’s a wonderful sense of symmetry throughout and this aged old being will be easy to style. Brick red, navy, sky blue, ivory, and espresso brown all play together beautifully. The main border band showcases crisp angular crab motifs that frame the composition well. The crab is symbolic, with it's hard shell as a symbol of protection, and it is undoubtedly woven into the border and unmistakably for that reason.

Low pile vegetable dyed wool, with scattered wear throughout, exactly what you’d hope to see from a piece that has been around this long. It exudes character and is worn in beautifully.
