You may find yourself staring at this antique 1930s Persian Sarouk rug and not letting up because it’s so exquisite and dazzling to the eyes. There are many good reasons to respect and admire this rug and why it may excite our senses. It’s undoubtedly a rare Sarouk because of one outstanding reason: it’s on a yellow marigold ground, a color blanketing the field that many have never seen before. Sarouk Persians are dressed in garnet red, almost exclusively; sometimes you may see them on a navy blue ground and more rarely on an ivory ground, but this color background is one in a million. It’s a prize topped with a joyful spirit and it’ll sprinkle in a lot of happy energy in the home.
Inspired by nature, the allover floral design in gorgeous jewel tones really stand out against that marigold yellow ground making it easy to style. With the darker hues, the border bands add such a beautiful contrast against the main field framing this rug perfectly. The wool here on this piece is superior, densely packed within each knot and its doable construction allows it to take abuse for years and keep on serving.
This antique Persian is in wonderful condition for its age, woven with nicely saturated and bold dyes, with lanolin rich wool that has some sheen to it. At nearly 11 x 14, it surely covers a lot of ground, packs a lot of punch, and will be a statement piece for the home.
Extended at an amazing value for age, quality, origin, condition and size. This is a very heavy weighted and luxurious Persian that is an absolute head turner.
