10’9 x 11’ Square Antique Persian Mahal rug #2560

Regular price $3,200.00

Square shaped antique Persian rugs are hard to come by, so this old baby from the 1920s is truly a one of a kind. From the village of Mahal in the NW Persian mountains, it features a diamond central medallion has an intricate floral pattern in hunter green, ivory, cornflower blue, and rose red against a charcoal gray ground which is outlined in a water motif. The water motif is symbolic of life everywhere and the preciousness of this resource; it can be interpreted as a sign of good fortune to come.

The spandrels mimic the central medallion design and provides a nice juxtaposition against the all over botanical design of the central field. With a rose red ground, the botanical design really pops against it, giving a feeling of lushness and vitality. The border patterns continue the botanical theme and envelope the central field wonderfully.

Handwoven with wool dyed with natural materials, such as vegetables, flowers, and plants, this lovely rug was created to last a lifetime. It does have a low pile and there is  scattered wear. At some point a new fringe was added and has been given some repairs to keep this beauty intact and ready to serve for another century. Please see shots of its patches and condition through the detailed pictures. At a great value, this rare square antique Persian Mahal rug will be a fabulous addition to any space!
