From the region of Mahal in NW Persia, the superior and most respected are known as Sultanabad. To hunt for a Sultanabad Mahal rug means you're seeking a Persian that is hard to find. When it comes to a masterpiece of this caliber, you're looking at a rare work of art that takes you on a journey across its landscape. Sultanabad was home to master artisans that regularly created pieces for commission.

These specific rugs have great desirability and we can see why. With subdued and aged, natural dyes, this remarkable work of art is distinguished by the large scale grandeur of its motifs and medallions that independently stand alone with song and story. It's a pleasure for the eyes to see.

This specific piece, woven about 150 years ago is a primitive village rug that represents an important and truly unique rug style. You may find yourself staring and gawking at it because this Sultanabad is genuinely and utterly beautiful. It'll make you wonder how the men gathered the vegetables, fruits, plants, insects and roots to use and create the natural dyes. It'll make you think how long it took as women sat on the loom outside their home to weave this extraordinary piece from memory (no sketches) from the time the sun would rise until it would set.

We're proud to have this low pile and floppy masterpiece in the collection, produced from superior, old world wool. From the ultra wide aqua blue borders and curvilinear floral art to the subdued and dark peach ground with honored tribal symbols and elements, this is a rug to cherish for a lifetime and a definite heirloom that will be passed down.

Extended at amazing and extraordinary value for a 19th Century showpiece. Please see pics of a couple of small patches and areas that have been healed from history and use. Thank you for shopping small!
