Introducing this majestic antique Persian Serapi rug - a masterpiece that will anchor any room down with its great history, power, and presence. This pre-1900 rug is a true representation of strength, with its classic central medallion and geometric tribal motifs throughout. The border bands perfectly complement the composition and add to the rug's overall magnificence.
Serapi rugs are some of the most outstanding tribal rugs from the rugged Northwest Persian Mountains. They represent the tribal patterns of the Caucasus region and are similar to Heriz rugs, but they are set apart by their limited number of rugs woven, larger scale size, spacious art, and profound aesthetic impact.
Known for their strength and durability due to a tight and compressed weave, Serapi rugs took several years to produce, with several weavers taking to the loom in a family workshop or home to complete. They are rare and in great demand by designers and because of their great allure, they can be found styled and kept in prominent buildings, such as the White House and other American state and federal buildings.
This magnificent rug is handwoven with vegetable-dyed wool, showcasing earthy tones reminiscent of mountain landscapes meeting the beautiful night sky. The navy blue and splashes of light blue against the natural dyes of ivory, beige, and chestnut brown create a soothing neutral palette that will complement any décor.
Low pile, clean, and in good condition, some areas of this beauty have been professionally restored to the utmost excellence in some areas. It is an exquisite example of a gorgeous rug that has stood the test of time, and its value is extended at a great price compared to brick and mortar stores or other online retailers.
