This is a Persian tribal hand knotted rug from Mahal, which is in Northwest Persia. It was hand knotted with superior quality wool. It is low pile, with light scattered wear that gives an abundant amount of character to it. This village rug has great appeal with old world charm and wool that was dyed naturally with vegetables.
The rug has motifs all throughout, each with its own style and art. The type of design we see are of the elite tribal weavings, considered as Sultanabad design.
