If you love antique Heriz rugs with personality, this one absolutely delivers. Hand knotted in the rugged mountains of northwest Persia during the 1920s, this beauty has everything that has made Heriz rugs favorites for generations: a bold geometric layout, saturated vegetable dyed wool, and the kind of sturdy construction that practically laughs at everyday life. This is a heavy, substantial rug with a wonderfully full pile and outstanding condition for its age.
The brick red field is rich and warm, framed by one of our favorite border compositions we’ve come across. The floral artwork is just fantastic, with graceful, stemmed blossoms, serrated leaves, and a charming floral chain guard border that dances around the rug. Even better, the two edge guards aren't twins, a detail I always enjoy spotting. One features playful paisleys on a teal ground, while the other carries the ivory floral chain, giving the rug an extra layer of visual interest.
And then there's the quirky zigzag motif tucked along the outer field. It almost feels a little retro, adding a playful rhythm among all the tribal artwork. It's soulful, durable as heck, and exactly the kind of antique that feels just as happy in a busy family room as it does anchoring a beautifully designed home. A true workhorse with over a century of stories already woven into it.
