This is a hand woven antique Mashhad rug, from the northeastern province of Khorasan of Persia. Mashhad is a major producer of valued rugs for hundreds of years and known to have some of the finest wool in their rugs.
This 1920's rug hand knotted with luxurious wool on a cotton foundation. It is HEAVY duty with generations to go. You will feel the weight and quality of the wool. The design is lovely and graceful, with curvilinear elements and an all over floral design. The ground color of the rug is distinct, royal and bountiful. This Persian offers so much articulate work and a love of labor that took women several months to years to produce.
At some point of this rug's life, it's length was professionally shortened about a foot, likely to fit a room better, which makes this rug's size approximately 11x13.
