This is a phenomenal early 1900s Persian rug woven by the Bakhtiari tribe and it is definitely one of the more intriguing rugs in the collection with a wildly different design and style. It has a unique aesthetic of what feels like four different nomadic and tribal rugs in one palatial piece.
This is a very real example of what Bakhtiari weavers created to boast their ability to weave a sophisticated composition, steeped with a bold twist that was intentionally and beautifully articulated. This palace size rug has great durability, superior and luxurious wool that has weight to it and it is in clean and amazing condition for its age.
Due to the complexity and originality of design, we suspect this oversize piece took 5+ years to produce with great efforts of numerous weavers, dyers and others. The wool is durable and lanolin rich with colors that are luminous.
The Bakhtiari tribespeople of the rugged Zagros Mountains are famed for their perilous annual migrations over snow-capped peaks and for their lustrous, deep-toned antique tribal carpets displaying grand scale, cornucopian designs.
We have many pictures to show this tribal rug off, as it takes a lot of detail to make and we didn't want you to miss out.
Handwoven with all natural, vegetable dyed wool circa 1900.
