Welcome to the world of the Persian Sarouk. Woven circa 1920, this antique rug is an absolute charmer with a fresh color story. It has an indomitable spirit as it is a multigenerational rug due to its phenomenal construction and high quality, old world wool.
Set on a warm ivory ground with floral art throughout, the warm ivory field is alive with branching vines, serrated leaves, palmettes, rosettes, and flowering sprays. The design grows outward and curls back into itself. It’s an all over design, which makes it a cinch to work and showcasing a wonderful sense of movement all framed by an awesome and moody midnight blue ground border. Every color on this Persian brings definition; madder red, raspberry-mauve along the outer guard, rose pink, camel, violet blue, touches of walnut, and slivers of French Blue, too.
This fantastic rug is a supremely heavy, substantial with dense, high-quality construction. It is what Sarouk is known for. Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool, it has the weight, wool, and integrity that make these old Sarouks enduring floor pieces.
Its generous 10’6 x 14’ size will anchor a room. The rug is in beautiful antique condition. There is one itty-bitty old patch, shown closely with my finger pointing to it in the photos. It is remarkably discreet within the busy floral design and does not detract from the overall beauty or strength of the rug. Please see all photos for complete condition details and full character.
