This old Oushak from Turkey is one that has a great presence with is ochre ground color and desirable border design and color ways. It has a very distinct style with its open field, and each knot is packed with history and soul.
From the 19th Century, this is a very worn wool rug, woven on a wool foundation. The village weavers may have taken a few years to produce this work of art, undoubtedly from the wool of their own sheep, using larger knots Oushaks are known for and leaving us with a room size rug that will be forever cherished. It’s very basic, raw and real with just natural elements of women with hands on the loom and vegetable dyed wool. It will command attention in the space it lives in and add immense story to the abode!
Please note: This rug has great age of 140-150 years and while it still has great integrity, due to its nature and character, it is best to keep it styled in an area that won’t have a lot of foot traffic. This palatial rug is fully intact, professionally washed and has been inspected and was in Rug Rehab to secure some areas that has threadbare. If you want to layer this piece with a sisal underneath it, we recommend a thicker rug pad than the ones we carry which are low profile, as the sisal would be extremely rough texture and uneven for this Oushak.
Low pile, scattered wear and woven with all natural, vegetable dyed wool.
