A deep, soothing ground carries sweeping vine scrolls, feathery leaves, grand palmettes, rosettes, and little flowering sprigs that open and curl as if caught in a breeze. The composition flows in arcs and counter-arcs, so your eye never stops traveling. Everywhere you look there is conversation between motifs, bouquets mirrored across the field, tendrils that reach, clasp, and release. It's movement with grace and intention.
Woven in vegetable-dyed wool by women with masterful hands, this Persian took years on a family loom, with different weavers lending their skill to various sections, from sun up until sun down. The border reads like architecture around a garden, stacking floral meanders and cartouches that frame the blue with warmth and depth. Look closely, and see peacock motifs woven in.
