1920s Persian Rug with Poled Medallion on Ivory Ground / 3'5 x 4'10 Rug #4387

Regular price $1,650.00

Showcasing a confident design, there is something very grounded about this antique Persian from the 1920s. The design feels powerful yet balanced, with a central pole medallion stretching through the field like an architectural spine.

The field rests on a beautifully mellowed two tone warm ivory ground. Time has softened the palette into creamy and warm sandy shades that shift across the surface of this scatter rug. Woven into the field is a delicate floral lattice pattern that sits quietly beneath the stronger structural elements of the rug. It gives the piece depth without overpowering the main design.

At the center and in the corner spandrels you’ll notice fish motifs woven into the ornamentation. These small details are a wonderful nod to Persian symbolism and often represent abundance, life, and flowing energy. They also bring a lively movement and beautiful contrast to the design, balancing the geometry of the medallion with touches of nature.

The borders feature three guard bands that frame the rug beautifully, pulling together the reds, blues, and warm neutrals in a way that feels cohesive and strong.

Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool, the rug has a stout, sturdy construction that still feels solid nearly a century later. It shows nicely aged wear that speaks to its history without compromising its strength. This is the kind of antique that can absolutely handle a busy space… an entry, hallway, or living area where a rug needs to work as hard as it looks good.
