This beautiful woven rug with flowers blooming in vases comes from the province of Kerman, located in Persia. It is located southeast of the country’s capital city of Tehran. These pretty rugs and carpets are perhaps one of the most recognizable within the antique Persian rug category as they are so distinct. In 1270, Marco Polo famed praised these rugs he loved (just a fun fact).
This particular 1920s Kerman as you see has a one way design of art work and is actually a prayer rug. This small mat is likely to have been woven for personal use by a woman. She was a religious Shia Muslim woman. Her art work was symbolic to her, was woven with love and it is a piece of history we treasure. This antique is great for a wall hanging, for an end table, styled on the piano or of course, on the floor as a great mat.
All of what you see is tightly woven with naturally dyed wool, from the 1920s. In great condition for its age! Lustrous and luxurious wool with an even pile.
This piece and several other small pieces now part our collection was acquired from an Oregon art collector.
