This wonderful scatter rug was created from 2 borders of a larger masterpiece antique rug we had the fortune of acquiring from a gentleman in Hawaii. The rug found a home at BPR, and comes from an English family who settled in Hawaii decades ago and this rug was passed down to their daughter. It is a very rare antique Indian Agra with gorgeous art and color story.
With the rug initially coming in with damage, we decided to preserve this 19th Century rug by giving it new life with new shape and size and now it can live on and be cherished. It was in the hands of an expert who took care of it by hand binding it and giving it it's perfect finishes. This piece actually has a mate if you check out rug #2230, you'll see the sibling piece.
The floral art in the borders have birds in the borders and animal motifs are always something we celebrate around here. They sing the story of the weavers and their lives...we can bet that the women on the loom were inspired by their surrounding beauty and nature and it was translated in the art we get to keep and adore.
Handwoven circa 1860-1880. All natural, vegetable dyed wool.
This piece will come with a free rug pad on the house to keep it snug and wiggle free.
