They say the ram horns were used as a wind instrument. It was blown by the men of the tribe in the Caucasus mountains as well as other cultures to summon people together. The border of this antique late 19th century scatter rug has just that. As a motif, they say it represents power, masculinity as well as fertility. The thought held is that women who weaved ram horns in their rugs wished for such qualities in their future husband.
This little gem is so earthy and perfectly worn. It was woven on a wool foundation and has a lovely floppy handle.
All natural, vegetable dyed wool. This piece will be shipped with a rug pad on the house to keep this oldie nice and secure.
