3’10 x 10’5 Antique Persian Bidjar with Rose Garden border #2725

Regular price $2,880.00

What a rare treat it is to find a gorgeous Gol Farang (meaning ‘foreign flower’) border design, usually only seen on Karabagh rugs, on an antique 1880s Persian Bidjar runner. Talented and skillful hands wove this striking rose garden design with such realism that it looks like it was delicately painted on. The French blue ground provides the perfect backdrop to the bouquets of roses and foliage.

It is an absolute delight to see this border drawing and this wonderful runner stands out from the crowd with its unusual work of art. The border frames the beautiful small scale water garden pattern aka Herati, aka fish design, motif against a bold rust red ground. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool on a deliciously raw and gorgeous wool foundation (look at those fringes!). The colors in this lovely runner are a testament to the superiority of dyes that are made from natural resources.

Known as the iron rugs of Persia, Bidjar rugs are woven with the toughest wool making them heavy and extremely durable. This beauty is nicely aged, and still has a lot of life in her and will make a great addition to any space in need of a touch of great history, elegance, and style.
