From the region of Caucasus, this early 1900s vegetable dyed Shirvan rug is in great condition witj light scattered wear and features awesome, all over art! If you look closely, you can see various batches of dyes used by the weavers and all the shades of blue!
These rugs are considered rare and many like to collect them, having been produced from expert dyers and weavers. This antique rug is low pile, handwoven with wool on wool foundation.
Rugs from this region are termed Caucasian, also known as old Russians. Undoubtedly, a woman wove this rug, and when completed, it was sold or traded for a source of life income. In the field, you will notice paisleys, which are “seeds of life” elements and represents fertility. Also, you will see the foreign numerals on the rug, which translates to 1329 and that converts to 1911 on the Gregorian calendar, pointing most likely to year of the woven piece.
