This amazing Kurdistan tribal runner was hand knotted by Kurdish weavers, a very small minority in areas that are north of Persia. It travels to us from circa 1920 and locks in the amazing and rich history of these lost treasures.
This old runner has folkloric art all over with meaning (we’ll get to that in a sec) and you’ll definitely feel the texture, weight and quality of the naturally dyed wool. And just look at the fringes....they are to be loved.
Woven with wool (on wool foundation), this runner displays possesses many animal elements, geometric motifs and medallions throughout. If you look around the middle of the field, you will also notice woven in are two humans. This may have been a dowry rug. So meaningful.
The color ways here are warm and earthy with a deep midnight blue ground color (and variation of natural dyes throughout) as well as light yellow, rust, dark brown, light pistachio, teal, aqua blue and ivory. Andddd, it’s in great shape for its age!
We recommend a rug pad that you can get here to keep this beauty in place. You can order one in our shop and we’ll custom cut one and send it.
