This attractive small hand-woven rug packs a punch with its great sense of spirit and bountiful color choices. Originating from the Caucasus region, Kazak rugs are known for their powerful tribal patterns, bold geometric shapes and rich colors achieved through the use of natural vegetable dyes.
Three ornamental medallions occupy the center with a sweeping abrash of midnight blue to a cornflower blue ground field. There are at least four shades of blue throughout this beautiful rug ranging from midnight blue to light blue. Brick-crimson, light cantaloupe orange, ivory, ecru, and dark chocolate brown fill out the rest of the color story of this exciting rug. Wine cups and serrated leaves are featured prominently in the main border giving it a celebratory feel.
This beauty, circa 1880-1900, shows signs of wear, but is fully intact and has a floppy handle. On a soft wool foundation. There has been some old repair work done, see pics.
