This is an antique Persian woven in the NW mountains of the country circa the 1920s, from the Hamadan district. This rug is low pile and is on an indigo blue backdrop, featuring a Herati pattern in the field, which is known for fish surrounding flower heads - it’s a water garden design.
Due to it’s hand woven nature, the width of this rug ranges from 2’10 to 3’ wide. It is in great shape for its age and the natural dyes are pretty exquisite and eye catching.
Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool.
Nothing synthetic about this old rug!
