This is a hand knotted, vegetable dyed wool runner with striking art. Handwoven in Russia (and known by collectors as an antique Caucasian), this antique Karabagh wool runner is emblematic of the diverse influences that infiltrated Karabagh weaving. Karabagh pieces are known to have a story rich in history and tradition woven within their rugs.
In the pics of this runner, you will also notice different shades of dyes (known technically as abrash). This is a result of the different batches of natural dyes that the men cooked their sheep's wool in and as a result, we have this phenomenal work of art that we cherish!
Low pile, from circa 1900.
