Woven with 100% wool with all natural vegetable dyes, this is a distressed antique runner woven by the nomadic people of the Caucasus mountains (north of Persia). This runner is heavy bodied and worn to foundation, so it will be ideal for a space without a lot of foot traffic that needs a great lift in decor in which this piece would add a lot of depth, history, tribal art and color ways that pop.
It has a beautiful, floppy handle and is weighted like a heavy blankie. It features the 8 pointed star which was a sacred element to the tribal weavers symbolizing their striving for inner wisdom and understanding. It was said that King Solomon wore a ring with this symbol. In the field, you'll see boteh in the field, representing "seeds of life/fertility".
This old beauty should definitely have a rug pad under it to keep it secure. It has wear and tear and some areas that have been re-secured on its foundation. Please see pics of character and condition.
Woven circa mid to late 19th Century with vegetable dyed wool. A very ancient and amazing runner with loads of character to elevate a space in a snap!
