From the Caucasus mountains, this 16 foot antique Lenkoran Kazak embodies quite a presence with geometric style and amazing art. These rugs are tribal and powerful in design. Lenkoran is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea.
This runner has a field of large palmettes on a midnight blue ground. Each palmette is unique in color, style and seriously good art. The midnight blue dye was derived from the natural resources gathered by the tribe, which were leaves of the indigo plant that they used to cook in the pot. What you'll also immediately recognize are the variations and shades of natural, vegetable dyed wool throughout the entire runner; specifically, you'll notice one end of the rug has a deep lavender, unlike the rest of the runner. This points directly to the changes in the batch of wool.
The rug is in timeworn condition with one small split near the border that was rewoven to restore this beauty (see pic).
