Come peek into a bygone era with this wonderfully love worn antique 1880s Caucasian rug. Created by weavers in the Caucasus Mountains, this lovely rug has had quite a life. The fact that this rug is still available for use is a testament to the quality of the wool, dyes, and craftsmanship.
The main field has an all-over paisley pattern with hints of rose red, ivory, sage green, French blue, and buttermilk yellow against a navy blue ground. Small floral borders provide a nice accent against the striking pinstripe-like main border with alternating colors in rose red, sage green, ivory, buttermilk yellow, and a few shades of blue.
The fringes on this amazing rug are beautiful, raw, and telling. Handwoven on a wool foundation with wool dyed with organic vegetables, plants, and flowers, this beauty has a low pile and a floppy handle.
