3'4 x 6'9 Antique Caucasian Runner with Eagle Art (#1168)

Regular price $1,050.00

Here is an 1880s tribal rug from the Caucasus mountains with loads of character and history, handwoven with vegetable dyed wool and on a wool foundation. The artisans featured what collectors identify as eagles in the field of the runner and you can see them in the field of the runner, where they stand out strong and powerfully. Most of the cultural symbols have their origins wrapping around folk mythology, folklore, religion, art and history. The eagle is a symbol of courage, wisdom and freedom to these mountain nomads. This old runner has animal elements also woven in and with flower heads throughout as well. The field of the runner is a navy blue ground and the border is an antique ivory ground.

This highly decorative antique is low pile, worn and has some patch work that you can see in pictures. Spot the pic where you see shoes and it will show you what we're pointing to. :-)
