This is a very warm and lustrous wool runner from the Caucasus and it has a very charming presence with amazing saffron yellow borders and powerful diamond medallions that are in the field. The contrast is intriguing and the symbolism in this tribal rug is quite present. We identify the animal elements in the field as dogs, symbolic for protection and defense.
Specifically, this runner was woven in Kuba, a small region in the eponymous mountainous region and it is quite regal with an impressive amount of weight and wool for its age, woven back circa 1880.
Woven with all natural, vegetable dyed wool.
