3'7 x 18'2 Antique Malayer Runner / Long Persian Runner

Regular price $0.01

Talk about length and beauty, this runner has it all. Sitting on a gorgeous ground of peach/apricot, this antique Persian Malayer definitely commands attention in the greatest way. The art and gracefulness of this rug is truly evident. It is considered a fine Oriental rug and was hand knotted circa 1920 and the wool still feels soft as ever after all this time!

Most of these old rugs were only woven in smaller sizes so this is a very special treat to have such a work of art in this length. It is not often you find an antique rug in eighteen feet! It undoubtedly took several months to a couple years to weave.

This runner is a vegetal (aka vegetable) dyed wool rug (from plant, fruit, and vegetables) that was hand knotted and has 100 years of life. It is in excellent condition, especially considering its age.

Like all of the most artistic village rugs, older antique Malayer carpets are excellent investments which are just now beginning to approach the full recognition they deserve. Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in Northwest Persia. Malayer and the surrounding villages produced some of the most ornate village weavings. At the finer levels, each Malayer Oriental carpet is distinct, the weavers having drawn on a large pool of designs, investing much originality in their creation.
