Love worn and with immense character, this Persian Malayer is a village rug that offers beauty and story from over a century ago. The wear that you see is all natural, hand woven circa 1880. It has aged well and this wool rug sits on a cotton foundation and a blush ground.
Like all of the most artistic village rugs, older antique Malayer carpets are excellent investments which are just now beginning to approach the full recognition they deserve.
Malayer is a large village located between the major weaving areas of Hamadan and Sarouk in the Northwest . Malayer and the surrounding villages produced some of the most ornate of village weavings. At the finer levels, each Malayer Oriental carpet is distinct, the weavers having drawn on a large pool of designs, investing much originality in their creation.
Hand knotted with all natural dyes circa 1880.
