3'8 x 4'1 antique Persian Heriz (#1096ML) / 3x4 vintage rug

Regular price $0.01

A RARE SIZE FOR AN ANTIQUE HERIZ, it’s Heriz Jr.!

Almost all Persian Heriz rugs we seem to catch are 8x10 or larger. For those of you who love Heriz and want a mini version, you found a little pot of gold. If you're gravitating immensely to that sky blue border and fell in love...you're also not alone.

This rug was hand knotted in Northwest Persia, and is in amazing condition for its 100 years of age. A real beauty that has timeless value and generations to go, featuring gorgeous and powerful medallions in the field. This tribal beauty has coarse knotting and a low wool pile with a sophisticated geometric design and medallions in it's rust colored field. It's size is also unique, essentially because it is square in shape and that's another rare element to old rugs.

With all natural, vegetable dyed wool rug, it arrives in great condition, especially considering its age. Also, let's just drool over the fact that the dyes change in color because the tribe had different batches of wool that were cooked and woven with. Spectacular and such a work of art to love. Remember, this is an original Heriz, not a reproduction. It does not get better than original Oriental (aka handwoven) rugs such as this. Please note that this Persian will not be exactly 3'8 in width, but will vary an inch here or there along the side. This is an amazing example of old, handwoven and one of a kind characteristics.

Fun facts: Heriz rugs are known for their outstanding durability. Coined "the Iron Rug of Iran," Heriz rugs were produced in the Northwest corner of Iran, on and around Mount Sabalan. One reason for the toughness of Heriz carpets is that Mount Sabalan sits on a major deposit of copper. Trace copper in the drinking water of sheep produces the most desired wool for rug weaving because it makes wool that is stronger and more resilient than wool from most other areas. It is said that many Heriz rug designs are woven from memory, with intricate designs passed on through generations of artisans.
