From the region of Caucasus, this century old antique vegetable dyed wool rug embodies great style, geometric and bold design. It's what these amazing rugs are all about! Immediately of course, we see an lovely color palette that soothes us. This rug is low pile, but has a meaty and even wool presence. It is a substantially special rug, in good shape and if you look closely, you can see the "mahi", which are the fish woven in the design. They are actually larger than we typically see them (they look like shrimp).
The natural dyes here are all from vegetables, plants, flowers and other natural resources available to the nomads to dye their sheep's wool. It travels to us from circa 1880 and is considered an old Russian. These hand knotted rugs are sophisticated antique carpets that come from expert dyers and weavers. We have plenty of pics for you to drool over, so go on and take an up close look at the tribal beauty. :-)
