Back when this was on the loom, a weave this remarkably fine and a design this intricate wasn't destined for an everyday household, it was typically custom commissioned for nobility.
The artistry here, it's incredibly detailed, with curvilinear art. It showcases a great color story, brought to life by authentic vegetable dyes that have also beautifully mellowed over a century of life. There are pops of ivory making the lovely lavender tones sing. There is also a sky-blue center point, it’s like peering into a pool of water in the middle of a stunning desert garden. The whole piece is a masterclass in depth and saturation and color story that is easy to love.
Physically and in the realm of antique rug world, this is considered a top-tier piece. It features a fine weave on a low pile, making it a weighted, solid piece that is structurally sound. The wool is that exceptional, high-grade old-world stuff that you just can't find anywhere, and it feels as good as it looks.
Since it’s a real antique and handmade, it’s not perfect, but it’s close. There is some very minor wool loss (you can spot it in the detail pics where I am pointing to the spots).
