This is a remarkable Persian Afshar, from the 1880s and it stands out from the crowd with its shield design motifs all over and its phenomenal flat weave ends; it is a show stopper and a work of art.
If you look closely, you can see the changes in the dyes on the background of the rug, which illustrates the different batches of the vegetable dyed wool used. It also indicates changes of hands on the loom, where one woman switched off with another; Quite special and meaningful as all these rugs have a beautiful story from so long ago for us to keep.
This old beauty is low pile worn to perfection. We recommend a rug pad to keep it secure and snug. https://www.shopblueparakeetrugs.com/collections/rug-pads/products/small-rug-pad
