This 5x7ish antique Persian rug has intricate details, with amazing hand knotted work, featuring “pregnant paisleys” that repeat throughout the field. Paisleys, also known formally as "boteh" in Farsi, represents the seed of life to the weavers (fertility). The paisleys in this beauty have seeds within each one, which is a symbol often used to symbolize the weaver who was an expectant mother. So special!
This old wool rug comes from the region of Malayer in Persia. It sits on a deep midnight blue ground and has warm and rust colors. The dyes have various, natural shades throughout that are quite evident. It is low pile, from the early 1900s and was hand woven with vegetable dyed wool. It does not get better.
