4’9 x 8’ Antique Karabagh rug (#1496ML) / 5x8 Vintage Rug

Regular price $0.01

Hello, amazing old rug! This is one attractive work of art! This antique vegetable dyed wool rug was made in the old region of Karabagh in the Caucasus Mountains. Woven with all natural, vegetable dyed wool, this rug has an all over even, low and soft pile.

Karabagh rugs are thought to have one of the most varied design traditions with rich history in their rug and they are sought after by collectors and designers due to their distinct designs and color schemes. The art of weaving no longer takes place in the Karabagh region due to the ethnic cleansings and war that in the past completely destroyed the weaving tradition, but these antique rugs we cherish today come from small workshops or individual homes in the small villages and just as a essential life skill, girls began learning to weave at age six.

This Caucasian is dated in the field and it translates to 1913. It is in amazing shape, especially considering age. It is a very durable and old rug with centuries to go.
