From the Persian Afshar nomads comes this amazing late 19th Century tribal rug with detailed design with an all over pattern and unique aesthetic. Antique Afshar rugs are quite distinct and in a class of its own and were usually woven in small pieces. The village people had small looms, but they created highly stylized rugs and many collectors favor these distinguished rugs and uphold their legacy to a large degree.
The wool of this piece is lanolin rich and was culled from their own flocks. If you look closely, you will notice not all the woven lines are straight and the rug is not perfectly straight either, indicating to us the hand woven nature of these pieces and their organic characteristics.
Antique Afshar rugs are rare and make not only for decorative floor pieces, but their art can be used as excellent wall hangings as well. Due to the scarcity of its kind, these are considered collectibles and we are proud to have and extend the value of these pieces back out to the world and our rug enthusiast community. Priced affordably because we believe every home should be decorated with old rugs. :-)
Hand knotted with vegetable dyed wool circa 1880.
