Saved for Rachel
From the Caucasus mountains, this antique flatweave has a fun piece with a wonderful color story, woven with vegetable dyed wool on a wool foundation. It has a floppy handle and medallions that we typically see in these classic and tribal pieces.
The lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. It features wine cups in the border and running water design in the edge guard. The natural dyes here are well aged, as this Soumak is from circa 1900 and it does have a wonderfully aged patina.
This beauty was gently patched in one area (please see pics) with some care in rug rehab to keep it ticking for decades to come. We'll send a rug pad on the house, custom cut to size to keep this beauty nice and snug.
