4'1 x 7'4 Antique Caucasian Kazak Runner (#1522ML) / 4x7 vintage runner

Regular price $0.01

This is an old hand knotted rug from the Caucasus mountains. It is tribal, with wool on wool foundation, from the 1880s with a soft and floppy handle.

This piece is known as Kazak and it has all natural dyes and this rugs tells it story with all of its symbolism. It features wine cups and serrated leaves in the border and within the field, 8 pointed stars that represent luck, surrounded by running water. In the outer  border, you'll notice the zigzag pattern which represents mountains, their landscape surrounding. Rug weaving was a sacred act for the weavers and what they produced had great meaning for them that we cherish today and forever. It features contrast in its color story, which is typical of the rugs from this region.

All the dyes you see are completely natural, from all the resources the tribespeople had around to use (veggies, plants and flowers). Please note, this Kazak has wear, congruent with age. It has a small area which was rewoven to keep its integrity and it has one other tiny area where it was stitched with thread. Please see pics.
