This antique ivory ground rug from circa 1900 is from Bibikabad, which is from the Hamadan region in Persia. These rugs are similar to their neighboring town, in Malayer. This rug is a definite heirloom and has generations to go.
In its field, we see the water garden design, which feature fish . This is one of the typical designs we see in these weavings, as well as the beautiful paisleys in the border. The field of this Bibikabad also features a central medallion surrounded by a gorgeous and even larger outer medallion.
The Bibikabad families have rugs woven that are super durable. This rug, while low pile, is quite thick and the wool with symmetrical knotting that has a distinguishing characteristic.
