From the region of Caucasus, this century old antique vegetable dyed wool Shirvan rug embodies great style, geometric and bold design, and richness in color that are traditional features of these rugs. Shirvan is located just to the south of the Caucasus mountain and these rugs are the most rare and most sought after, and are the most sophisticated antique carpets of the Caucaus region, coming from expert dyers and weavers.
These nomads included in their work of art many elements throughout the rug that has great symbolism as well as symmetry. This is a wool rug on wool foundation and the quality is instantly felt and seen. This is a stout rug that has seen over a century of life and is ready for another century of use. It comes with the time worn characteristics of a handwoven rug we love and desire.
Several up close pics taken for your convenience so you can see full condition and color ways including a pic with another rug with more neutral colors to show you this rug's true colors. One area on bottom at border was mended. See pic with shoe shot :-)
It is still soft, floppy for wool that is so old. We recommend a rug pad. We can throw one in for an additional $100 on order. Just let us know.
