Woven in the region of Caucasus, this vegetable dyed wool Kazak embodies the geometric and bold design and color that are traditional features of these tribal and highly symbolic rugs. Perhaps that is why they are some of the most widely collected and prized of the Caucasian rugs. Some of the earliest Kazaks woven date back as far as 1700 BC.
These rugs are very powerful in design. This Kazak has coarse knots and a striking design featuring powerful medallions in the field. Low pile, worn, with a floppy handle. Please see photo of one mended area of the rug that was taken care of to keep its integrity and strength.
