4'6" x 5'4" square antique Afshar rug

Regular price $0.01

SALE! This is a beautiful, old tribal rug from Afshar village. It was hand knotted circa 1920 and it has an all over floral pattern with ruby and aqua blue on a grid design in the field.

The borders have multiple lanes of geometric pattern and the wool is soft, full and old world. The wool was dyed naturally, with vegetables and everything in this rug is true.

The size of the rug is most attractive, being nearly square, which is something rare for rugs of this age. This Afshar tribe is from the Southeast of Iran and these semi-nomads made some of the most distinct rugs that are collected today.

This rug has some wear (mainly in the middle) and because it is handmade, you will notice unique characteristics in its weave like in one corner of the rug, where it has a little curvature. This is old world charm and a testament to how these rugs were made while tribe members were possibly traveling!
