This extraordinary 19th Century piece comes from the Persian Afshar nomads. Afshar rugs were usually woven in small sizes. Their pieces stand out from the crowd in art and design with distinct wool, construction, wool and art.
This specific tribal Persian is an unusual piece with the animal elements displayed; we see what seems to be deer and rabbits, pointing to a "hunting scene". It has an antique ivory ground with a strong and beautiful central medallion and lovely corner spandrels. The first border closest to the field display gorgeous boteh paisleys on a midnight blue ground with pops of baby blue. You'll also see vase and floral bouquets. A lot of story and character with this old beauty.
Low pile. Worn. From circa 1870-1880. All natural, vegetable dyed wool.
