This is an old village rug, hand knotted by tribal weavers of Shiraz, which happens to be home to the famous Qashqai tribe.
This late 19th Century rug has a geometric design with double diamond shaped pole medallions in its field. The weavers included many tribal elements in the rug, which undoubtedly symbolizes to us the weaver’s story, community and history. You’ll see pinwheels of life, all sorts of paisleys (represents seeds of life/fertility), trees, and surrounding the field medallions are peacocks.
This is a wool on wool foundation rug, naturally dyed with vegetables, roots and plants sources. It is a low pile, but a thick rug with old world wool you can truly feel, and it has an attractive size that is harder to come by.
Hand knotted circa 1880. Low pile, worn.
