This is an old village rug, hand knotted by tribal Qashqai weavers with muddy color ways. It is a primitive piece in many respects respective to the time it was woven and the motifs and patterns that were incorporated while women on the loom sang with sony and story.
From the 1880s with geometric design, we see triple diamond medallions on its navy blue field and its timeworn with aged natural dyes. This old beauty is tribal, featuring hundreds of meaningful elements throughout, as well as animal elements such as peacocks, camels and gazelles. Some of the motifs were woven to ward off the evil eyes while others were there for luck, happiness and prosperity. It has been said that their tribal history, traditions and stories that were woven into their rugs date back a thousand years.
This is a wool on wool foundation rug, naturally dyed with vegetables, roots and plant resources. Very Worn. Please see pics for full character and condition of this late 19th Century Persian.
