Oh the wool on this rug! Luxurious. Soft. Fluffy. Natural dyes that have pop! This antique Persian Shiraz rug is in good condition and the shape is simply spectacular for those who need an approx 5x8 size, which is harder to spot when searching for old rugs.
The design features diamond medallions within the field of the rug and several animal elements all throughout as well has human figures which may indicate the weaver. You'll also see tribal elements and "pinwheels of life".
The dark ground is indigo blue and you'll also notice the change of blue with the abrash as the weaver used a different batch of cooked blue wool to finish the field of this Shiraz. This nomadic rug was woven on a wool foundation and has a heavy and floppy handle with exquisite, raw fringes that adorn the rug. From the 1920s.
The wool was dyed naturally with vegetables, plants, and mineral sources.
