This is a very worn and amazing Caucasian (Russian origin) Soumak rug from circa 1920.
It's 100% wool and a flat weave rug woven in the mountains NW of P E R S I A and it features medallions and intricate motifs throughout. The lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak.
This rug has loads of wear and character. Please see pics for several, small patches. Rug is all there and repaired. It truly breaths its age and all the distressing you see was earned through time. It is highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home with many symbolic, tribal elements. You'll definitely want to grab a rug pad for this oldie to keep it nice and snug. We don't recommend it going in a high traffic area, but it will do justice for the norm!
